Ah, the miraculous wonder of sleep,
A bemused land in an ancient keep.
Ready to surrender when we lay down,
Like floating driftwood already drowned.
We know not when it happens, only gone,
At the mercy of life’s rhythms, its pawn.
Sleep has a name, but no real presence,
Its dreams invade the land with resonance.
Time stops, the future awaits, but no past,
Locked in sleep’s unique wilderness, fast.
What happens in dreams we never know,
Where the dreams take us, we simply go.
The mind wants to rest for the body’s sake,
Eyes closed we disappear, then we awake.
Sleep is a precious state. A miracle indeed! We know when it calls, lie down, and there it is........as if a magician waved his wand and out eyelids close. 'Enjoyed!!
I TOTALLY AGREE, JOHN, THE GOOD LORD SURE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING WHEN HE MANDATED THAT THE HUMAN BODY WOULD, INDEED, NEED PERIODS OF 'WONDERFUL SLEEP' IN THE ON-GOING PROCESS OF REJUVENATING FROM DAY TO DAY. THE NEEDS OF THIS GIFT DIFFERS FOR US ALL BUT, THE LONG OR SHORT OF IT IS; IT'S NECESSARY(ONE CAN GET QUITE 'CRANKY' WITH OUT IT--OLD OR YOUNG) AND ENJOYABLE(FOR MOST ANYWAY). THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS.
It's making me wonder lately. When I find myself uncomfortable and thrashing half the night, awake with spasms, aches and itches and other irritation keeping me from settling down until, finally, I'm gone. I can't wait for the days when tucked in, I close my eyes and then open them to the morning. It is getting rarer all the time.
Still, although I may have a headache some mornings, I still seem to get enough of that blessed commodity, sleep.
I wish I could sleep like that, I have a pet monkey he's small cute and squishy, I cuddle him when I can't sleep, lol, I never outgrew my childhood. Have a great day, and thank you for the sweet poem this morning xo
