What Caveman Knew
By John Herlihy

What the cavemen knew we now call unknown,
As night’s mystery spreads, its clarity was known.
The night was always there before history began;
History only repeats itself, with our night a sham.
No one bothers to take notice now of a single star,
Whereas the night beckoned cavemen to dream afar.
The awesome night still haunts us in broad daylight;
Its mystery not just assigned to the darkness of night.

From the darkness of thought came three ideas,
That serve a useful purpose to alleviate our fears.
They sail as lost vessels under the ocean of night;
Like stars, they twinkle their infinitesimal light.
Our deity, our immortality, and our beauty of soul;
These three things cavemen from the night stole.
Time has now come a new dimension to perpetuate;
As wavelets on immense ocean, new ideas to initiate.

Why should we be locked into only what we fathom?
Why can’t we release all that we have ever imagined?
Forget not, the cavemen had the imagination to dare;
Their courage was instinctual, with curiosity to spare.
They led humanity out of forest in the primordial past,
Their foundations of primitive knowledge made to last.
Let us not believe in discoveries at the expense of soul
When probing the mystery of night will make us whole.

...not to mention the continual discovery of those still living their lives as in the past, the Amazon jungle tribes (what's left of them.) Of course, in far too many geographical locations, even if one gazed toward the sky, pollution would render the starts mere blurred blips. Sad.

the primitive cavemen left us their rock paintings which have reached us throughout the ages in the design above our most sophisticated imagination. of course, they knew what is out of our minds today because of the so-called 'progress of civilization.' everything becomes smaller here nowadays; therefore, our gaze upwards to the stellar sky. an insightful vision. One needs imagination to fathom mysteries, and saying I don't Know, Is the beginning of knowledge.
