Riptide
By John Herlihy

I always try to follow the straight path,
To avoid undue ruts in life’s aftermath.

Still tributaries exist sinuous, crooked,
That lead down paths ominous, wicked.
If we take a false step, we must beware,
Outcomes emerge, little mercy to spare.
Often, unconsciously, we make a mistake,
The puzzle is scrambled, hard to remake.

We swim on through life’s deep oceans,
To drink the elixir of life’s secret potions.
We ignore any danger of being drowned,
Tied to a heavy anchor and firmly bound.
God knows each day has a different name;
That nothing in the world stays the same.

Evils tempt us we should avoid at all cost;
Otherwise we run the risk of ending up lost.
Beware of all unseen currents of the riptide,
Dragged to unforeseen depths, wide-eyed.
Some currents forge a compelling stream,
Leading us far away from what we deemed.

Ah, life’s treacherous riptides run aground,
They drag us away and then we are drowned.

WHO BUT GOD HAS THE ABILITY TO GUIDE US SAFELY AS WE SWIM THROUGH THE OCEANS OF LIFE? IF I HAD TO WORRY ABOUT ALL THE THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN I WOULD NOT MAKE IT THROUGH FROM DAY TO DAY. MY LIFE IS IN GOD'S VERY CAPABLE HANDS...AAAHHH! NOW I CAN RELAX AND 'SWIM', NOT DROWN, KNOWING HE'S TAKING CARE OF ALL THE UNSEEN 'CURRENTS' THAT REACH FOR ME. GREAT RHYMING, ENJOYED IT. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

And, in being drowned, we are jettisoned into the next iteration of the indestructible existence of atoms. Marvelous.

A guided path isn't a straight path. It is a path with ups and downs. It allows us to make rightful decisions with the help of the guiding light from above. The reward is joyful.

When you lose your focus, you lose your discipline, then, you confront your humanness. A straight path never leads anywhere except to the intended goal. I perceive you are channeling Quran Sura 11 verse 56. I am fully convinced, John, that Islam's 'straight path', (Allah) and Christianity's 'narrow path', (Christ Jesus - John 14:6) both lead to their intended goal. Peace... r

"I always try to follow the straight path,
To avoid undue ruts in life’s aftermath. "

Ah, the straight paths always seemed so very dull, so I admit to following many crooked ones in my wandering. Looking for excitement, and usually found it there.
