THE WEIGHT OF THE BURDEN
By John Herlihy

The weight of the burden, we know its name,
The burden is innocent; the weight to blame.
In a court of public opinion, guilt has no right,
Fostered upon the mind as a personal plight.
Depression steals upon us without beknown,
To overwhelm the heart with its savage tone.

The burden of solitude has little weight to hold,
The burden of unhappiness cannot be fully told.
The dead weight of the world impossible to bear,
The light weight of a feather inspires us to stare.
Every secret bears a weight in being concealed,
Every lie bears a weight in never being revealed.

God gives no burden whose weight we cannot bear,
The devil conceals the burden in his tempting stare.
Grief can be a burden with the weight of an anchor,
To keep us grounded in the face of unbridled rancor.
The weight of the past lies behind us by wind blown,
The weight of the future lies before us on its own.

A turtle has a house on his back as protective shell,
Its weight never a burden so far as anyone can tell.
We can take on as challenge the burden of the day,
The weight of lonely nights burden enough to convey.
The weight of a burden may truly break a person down,
The quality of the burden can be worn as a regal crown.

You "said" it best, John!! Life at times is a test of some sort, a game of "let's see how much weight we can put on this tinker toy bridge until it falls!". I love love love that last line! Gold!

Love ya!

IT WOULD BE 'IMPOSSIBLE' FOR ME TO BEAR ALONE THE WEIGHT OF THE BURDENS THAT I HAVE ENCOUNTERED ON THIS, MY JOURNEY...HOWEVER...I'VE GOT A 'GOOD FRIEND' WHO SAYS, 'GIVE ME YOUR BURDENS, FOR...MY YOKE IS EASY AND MY BURDENS LIGHT' AND I GIVE THEM ALL TO 'HIM'. THUS, THE GREATER PART OF ALL MY BURDENS 'HE' TOTES THOUGH HE ALLOWS ME(I LOVE STANZA 2, LINE 1)TO FEEL THE WEIGHT 'SOMEWHAT' IN ORDER THAT I STAY GROUNDED(STANZA 2, LINE 4) AND FORGET NOT HIM. WHAT A MARVELOUS WORK, MY FRIEND, THANK YOU, MUCH! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH..JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

As they say, if it doesn't kill you, it'll make you stronger.

Sometimes... burdens are what we give to ourselves. As long as we are living we will always have burdens. Burdens are worries, sometimes we worry for no reasons, hence giving us the burdens.

As you capsule our burdens (how to we live with all those burdens?) I began to wonder how any of us survive, but then I came to the solutions. We do not survive . . . Every one of us die, and that is the solutions. Even here there is a catch. A religious catch for most of us. When we die, every religion I have claimed to understand tell us we will pass on to "heaven," or something similar . But, that there is a big "but," we must be religious on a mental and physical basis to enter the golden gate of Heaven. If you do not believe wholeheartedly you go to live in a horrible place . . . Fire burning Hell. There is another belief however, which gives us another life after death with no strings attached, and that belief is Incarnation. I am a firm believer.
