Prayer of Remembrance

By John Herlihy

When it comes to prayer, what should I say?

The Lord God above surely knows the way.

People always refer to the prayer of the heart;

But my prayer always seems faulty at the start.

Watch over me, help me, protect me, save me,

All of these entreaties only seem to belittle me.

Enlighten, enrich, empower, and even perfect me,

Only seems like ambition that comes to haunt me.

The prayer of remembrance lives quietly untold;

It seizes the moment all the divine glory to hold.

To remember the truth and the light, the presence;

What need of words when you have the essence.

In fact, what use in kneeling down on your knees,

When God is everywhere, in grass, in light, in breeze.

IT IS MY BELIEF THAT WE DO NOT GRAB THE SPIRIT OF PRAYER...THE SPIRIT OF PRAYER GRABS US. AND IT CAN BE ANYTIME, ANY PLACE, ANY WHERE. SOMETIMES, WE ARE WALKING OR RIDING. BUT THEN SOMETIMES WE ARE AT HOME IN A PRIVATE PLACE AND WE KNEEL TO REVERENCE THE PRIVATE MOMENT THAT IS BETWEEN US AND OUR GOD. BUT OF COURSE, AS I STATED WE CAN PRAY WHERE EVER HIS SPIRIT MEETS US. AS TO WHAT TO SAY? FOR ME, TRUE PRAYER IS NOT MEMORIZED, IT'S REALLY 'OFF THE CUFF'. THE WORD OF GOD TELLS US THAT WE HARDLY KNOW WHAT TO SAY OR PRAY FOR, BUT THAT THE SPIRIT ITSELF INTERCEDES AND GIVES UTTERANCE FOR US. SO, IN A NUTSHELL...TO EACH HIS OWN AND NO ONE HAS A RIGHT TO JUDGE ANOTHER AS TO HOW AND WHEN THEY SHOULD PRAY...THIS IS TOLERANCE AND RESPECT OF ANOTHER PERSON'S BELIEF. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

God looks to see if your heart is on its knees. I was told that by a guy who came back from Nam years ago with no legs. Beautiful poem. We must stay grateful.

Love ya!

I AM a prayerful man. But, I must admit, I should pray more often. For all of us have fallen short of our Lord's magnificent power, love, light, might, and glory. A dear friend was supposed to go bike riding with me yesterday. However, he could not go because he was grieving the sudden loss of his 77-year-old brother who died while falling off a ladder in a tree. We do NOT know the minute or the hour when we will leave planet earth. We just know that day WILL come. Are we really ready to meet our MAKER tomorrow? None of us are really prepared but that's one ticket each one of us has tucked away inside our hearts and minds and it's definitely ONE shot, ONE way, and ONE destination. By now, we should all know the right way to travel FIRST class to the BEST place. It's not too late to UPGRADE that ticket. The conductor is waiting for us at the main station. We are so blessed to be given a second chance. Amen!

God is flexible. You can fall sick and lie on your bed to pray, and he will still hear your prayers if your prayers are sincere.

I'm not a prayerful man, but even so, this sounds good to me.
