Back now from my summer wanderings, I now have a steady stream of work to look forward to, trying to teach my students how to write. What a noble endeavor in this day and age !

A Flawed Place

By John Herlihy

A flawed place in the fabric of his heart,

He knew not its whereabouts, not now or ever.

Without his knowing, there from the start,

His heart, after all, not something one can sever.

The day would come when he would find out,

He gave freely of himself, in kindness and mercy.

Until one day occurred when he had a doubt,

He realized some things affected him adversely.

Some people do not deserve a free kindness,

They take without giving in their own sinister way.

Why should his good will be a form of blindness,

In his act of giving, he ends up being the one to pay.

He had a flawed place in the fabric of his heart,

A place if discovered from which he still could not part.

Can anyone put himself above God not to forgive? Mortals sin daily and are in need of His forgiveness. If this person is reaching to you to point out the fact that he has "a flawed place in the fabric of his heart" he has no fabric. 'Powerful write!!

Love ya!

Not all students appreciate their teachers. Some are really bad students. Then there are those students who would form their own opinions on things that need to be discussed upon. As long as they are willing to form some sort of discussion with you you are still considered to be their best teacher and being appreciated.

Welcome back, John!

Most excellent poem sir. I'm afraid we can't make it through life without collecting a few flaws, and some of us feel it through the fabric of our heart.

Cheers,
Dan

"Some people do not deserve a free kindness,"

This, then is the whole of your fantastic poem, John, and it is good to see you back from your travels. True enough that people do not deserve anything but scorn.

We all have flaws, and we all have e a dark side, and they can both make us better if we don't let them control us. Nicely done, and welcome back.

It is interesting that you often come back to a similar theme in your poetry. But I believe "going back to steady work" helps relieve the anxiety that brings on this poetry harkening on haunting.

I find this uniquely effective written in third person. At some point we all have to embrace being perfectly imperfect. Certainly God works through flawed people because He makes so very few of the other kind. Well expressed, John. Enjoyed. Peace... r

I have felt this way many a time dear John. That is why as I age I choose whom I give to more aware then when I was young. Still we cannot change our way, we are who we are. You touched a tender spot in me this morning. My mom passed away peacefully and we celebrated her life two days ago. Take care. Life is precious so are friends. I consider you one of them. Hugs.
