The Mark of Simplicity
By John Herlihy
I wear as a medallion the mark of simplicity,
Treasure troves of the rich only exhibit complicity.
Regal crowns, precious gems, the finest of silks,
No more value than a spring flower that soon wilts.
High positions, superior rank, and stock portfolios,
Only attract corrupted thieves and their imbroglios.
Vast estates, gilded palaces, mansions with servants,
Are not the abodes of wise men, sheikhs, or savants.
Give me a roof over my head and a hearth with a fire,
A simple carpet under my feet and a peasant’s attire.
Without the clutter of the world in my surroundings,
My thoughts and desires will lean on simple findings.
In my heart I do take pride in a humble simplicity,
I let others hoard and take note of their complicity.
Love ya!

Your image reminded me of my college design professor. When I returned to college from being paralyzed he and his wife rented me a room in their restored Victorian house. Also a metalsmith of the status of "a modern-day Paul Revere." Michael Jerry produced pieces of pewter, silver and bronze similar to the image and always with the ultimate simplicity, his hallmark.
