FREEDOM

By John Herlihy

Chains can bind us to a post,

Words betray us if we boast.

What good to conquer a world,

Only to be to damnation hurled.

In pain we may at times suffer,

In frustration we do soon mutter.

In youth we often act impetuous,

In old age, we may end up fatuous.

What in heaven does it all matter,

What we say is so much chatter.

There are no rules that truly bind,

What frees us is of another kind.

Only be to our inner nature true ,

To use all the wisdom we accrue.

An upbeat poem with words directed to those of us who do not watch their words, less they vocalize sentencing’s of mismanagement.

I love this poem, John. To thine own self be true. Fifty years from now no one will care what we said or did. Best to follow the heart and keep the conscience clear. Well penned as always.

Nice write, but are we ever truly free? I think we're all chained to one thing or another.

Wisdom is something I've pursued since I was a child. Have stayed disciplined to that pursuit to this day. I've been blessed to get a little bit of it on my journey so far. True wisdom (IMO) is far better than worldly knowledge. I enjoyed your insight here, John. Peace... r

My problem is impetuous, but I'm no youth. I need to exercise wisdom with my words.
