- One Brief Season -
By John Herlihy
Ah, how life seems but endless tomorrows,
How we steal the days as one who borrows.
The spring rains come upon us all too brief,
Seeming endless as they bestow their relief.
As the summer’s warmth blankets the earth,
Visions of glory appear in the garden’s rebirth.
As autumn’s decline brings notes of sadness,
Dying leaves wave their farewell in gladness.
Harsh winter cold harbors the longest season,
The world of nature dies but gives no reason.
Each season enjoys a fixed moment in time,
Each brings with it a lesson, yours and mine.
Life but a blink of an eye, as we rise and fall,
One brief season to make a mark, that is all.
