- The Silence of Hymns –

John Herlihy

Winter does always seem so unending,

Cold and harsh, there is no use pretending.

I walk by the garden where no flowers grow,

In summer, the garden did such beauty bestow.

Now the ground frozen solid in seasonal death,

One wonders if anything below ground still left.

Today as I walk, I sense new freshness in the air,

Sorrows ready to be unburdened, a renewed care.

Daylight as conspirator shining thru crystal prisms,

A lightness to my steps in the silence of rhythms.

A sense today holds mercies my hardship to spare,

In my heart, I feel the beginnings of a silent prayer.

As I walk by the garden, I hear the silence of hymns,

In the corner trembling, a bouquet of chrysanthemums.

WHEN ONE IS IN-TUNE WITH NATURE TO SEE AND HEAR THE SILENT PROMISE OF THINGS TO COME...THAT IS CERTAINLY A HUGE BLESSING! ENJOYED AND THANKS, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Your words have me experiencing this walk with you. Yes, I noticed "in the corner trembling a bouquet of chrysanthemums" letting us know that she's dropped her seeds already and will be back. A write of renewal! I love this!

Love ya!

Beautiful! A little heavy, though. Like winter indeed can be.

I have a rose bush that's planted under a bay window, so it's protected from the elements. We have had winters where that bush was still blooming in Dec. As always, I enjoyed your words.

Oh, most excellent! This is my favorite so far. First one feels the bleak heaviness of a burdensome season that promises to go on forever. Then your tread begins to lighten and a bit of light seeps through - with the satori of chrysanthemums. Hope springs eternal!

I love the ending of your beautiful well penned poem. A bouquet of chrysanthemums trembling. I would cup my hands around them and send them some heat from the palms of my hand . Just a winter visual to bring you smiles. Have a wonderful day.

Contrasts are the beauty of seasons
and you have etched out an excellent one
in this chilly but deep poem of hope.
Well done.
