-- The Honesty of Tears -–

John Herlihy

Rare beauty lies in the honesty of tears,

That we have shed truthfully over the years.

Small wonder our teardrops fall from eyes,

The little heart is broken when a child cries.

Even a big heart often to sorrow succumbs,

We dread any feeling of sadness that comes.

Something has ended, but does anyone care,

Something taken in a life that doesn’t spare.

Who said life could make me such a promise,

Some things to happen that I would so miss.

Our suffering and loss, the death of a loved one,

Our misery in life’s fabric from darkness spun.

Take comfort in the fact the tears are honest,

They wash the soul clean and clear the breast.

Beautiful words. I'm not one who cries in front of people. I bet I could use a good cry to clean my my soul.

Tears of sadness,
help one to heal.
But tears of joy,
Have a happy feel.

Touching John. The land of tears are such a secret place in all of us. I remember someone saying: 'the soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears.' Sometimes honest tears are the best words the heart can speak. Enjoyed your sonnet. Peace... rlc
