A simple kindness can go a long way,

Unnoticed almost, but so much to say.

A hand offered when you least expect,

Helping you through some sad regret.

On that cloudy day, a stranger’s smile,

To soothe a worry or a fear for a while.

Someone defers and lets you go first,

A simple thing that quenches a thirst.

How we may suddenly feel vulnerable,

Then heartened, we feel incomparable.

The divide of harsh and loving is finite,

While a tender gesture can be infinite.

A simple kindness and we feel grand,

Ready to take on life’s every demand.
