-- THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD --

John Herlihy

We speak of golden suns and a golden age,

All those gold wheat fields spiced with sage.

Amid a flutter of golden hopes and dreams,

The color golden filters all our wishes it seems.

Forget not golden daffodils or the golden bower,

Roads paved with gold a mirage of striking power.

But nothing can compare to this golden afternoon,

There in my heart, sweeping me clean with its broom.

A whiskey bronze fills the air with its honeyed light,

A golden light of worlds gathers to reveal rare insight.

Hark, I hear a golden sunset gathering in the distance,

Flecks of yellow and orange merging with no resistance.

Soon earth’s vast horizon blessed with a mantle of gold,

As I sit on my porch to witness the greatest story ever told.

Wonderful description, which you always excel at. I especially liked, "A whiskey bronze fills the air...". Beautiful!

If only gold didn't have the mark of Trump. Here, you've managed to take ones focus to the color, the texture and the true essence and given it some TRUTH. Something that creature inhabiting the White House knows nothing about. Refreshing, to say the least, this piece.

God's story and the birth of his son is the greatest story ever told. There is a movie with that exact title. Still, the world He made for us has beauty that all the money in the world cannot buy. All we need to do is step outside and enjoy the view. It's priceless! You have described it well. Amen

Beautiful as always, But Personally I think a sunrise is much more majestic.

"nothing can compare to this golden afternoon, / There in my heart,"

If you and keep your heart filled with "golden" thoughts and feelings, my friend, they can detour your path to righteous happiness. Love this one, for sure.
