-- OUR SENSES UNBOUND --
John Herlihy
Our five senses often play an alternative role,
Use the heart of another sense as if they stole.
We may imagine dragon clouds in a foul smell;
We see lightning but the sounds of thunder tell.
Animals seem able to pick up the smell of fear,
While humans see emotion in the drop of a tear.
The eyes roam to find a bleeding hearts flower,
Smell the air to arouse the aroma of the bower.
The sound of a violin pulls on the heart strings;
We almost taste the melody when a bird sings.
We listen to sounds of silence to fool the brain;
Gentle breeze can carry the moist smell of rain.
The wisdom of a nose can be found in the eyes;
The vision of the eyes may tell our hearing lies.
The world is connected in ways we cannot tell;
Ears listen to silence while sight invades smell.
We can feel our five senses in ways unbound;
Mystery unveiled never imagined to be found.
In the sixth sense, the senses find true home,
To know the miracles beneath heaven’s dome.
