-- The Indifference of the World --
By John Herlihy
The indifference of the world fearful to behold,
It passes us by as we pass with nothing to hold.
The hours and days slip thru our fingers as sand,
Empty, idle moments take leave as a reprimand.
Why do we always refer to the fulness of time,
When emptiness of the hours seems solely mine.
Sun rises, moon sets, the bud becomes the bloom,
The world turns on its orbit in a vast celestial room.
Seasons pass and they never utter the question why,
While we question everything and answer with a sigh.
Does the blossom ever care as I lean down to explore,
Stars above stare down blankly as I gaze up and adore.
Not just the world, but the world’s incredible beauty,
Makes itself available to our sight as if a matter of duty.
When we take our leave, we will finally come to know,
The world as we know it as evanescent as falling snow.

Rebecca
I firmly believe someone(thing) among those heavenly sites we gaze so wonderfully toward are gazing at us and wondering much the same things.
