-- The Emptiness of Consolation --

John Herlihy

Consolation brings little satisfaction,

Its solace waits patiently in the wings.

Feeble relief whose tide has no traction,

Like a wind whose breath briefly sings.

Sudden bereavement mounts its wave,

That surges in a torrent into the heart.

A loved one gone without a final wave,

Small comfort fills a heart broken apart.

Thru hardship and sorrow there lingers,

Gentle hints that all will soon turn well.

While little consolation slips thru fingers,

Just grains of sand without much to tell.

Empty consolation brings little to inspire,

To leave behind feelings proven still dire.

-- The Fullness of Consolation --

John Herlihy

Consolation brings fulfilling satisfaction,

Its solace waits patiently in the wings.

Welcome relief whose tide has traction,

Like a wind whose breath happily sings.

Sudden bereavement mounts its wave,

That surges in a torrent into the heart.

A loved one gone without a final wave,

Then comfort fills a heart broken apart.

The hardship and sorrow never lingers,

Consolation knows soon all will be well.

As misery slowly slips thru open fingers,

Just grains of sand without much to tell.

Fullness of consolation will always inspire,

To rekindle our hearts with its spark of fire.

John. I so love this! A hug feels good as well...."Sudden bereavement mounts its wave,".......oh, does it! Sometimes one just needs to let go and let God or or as a lady I worked in a halfway house with would smile and tell me, "Good Orderly Direction"......cool, eh?

Love ya!

CONSOLATION IS ALWAYS GOOD, BUT IT DEPENDS UPON THE NEED. SOMETIMES ACTIONS AND WORDS ARE NEEDED...SOMETIMES NOTHING IS NEEDED BUT YOUR PRESENCE, A PRAYERFUL HEART AND SILENCE. I LOVE THIS AND THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Beautiful as always. I like Ed's glass half full thoughts.

A yin and yang of life's ups and downs in a syncranicity that perhaps only humankind can experience and understand. Eloquently expressed with your trademark of hope always infused. Thank you for posting.

Interesting writes. I have never considered that consolation could actually have two sides, but by its very nature I see that it "will always inspire, to rekindle our hearts with its spark of fire," if we would just let it. You've educated me here.

Two views stated so well. I like the glass is half full version, filled with inspiration. Well done.

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
