 -- The Grateful Mind --

John Herlihy

The grateful mind, oh wherever have you gone,

Lost among the brambles, impaled on a thorn.

Once you waited patiently there in life’s wings;

Your bud ready to bloom when our heart sings.

Children appreciate their little gifts with a flush;

Give them a flower and they smile with a blush.

Express gratitude and people think you are kind;

The emotion never lost amid clutter of your mind.

Now any sense of gratitude lost in the shadows;

Our gratitude now attitude with pointed arrows.

Who has any time now to step outside the ranks,

Appreciative of what comes our way with thanks?

Ingratitude will never say thank you for anything;

Gratitude will always say thank you for everything.

Gratitude is both easy and difficult to express even to oneself, but it's a skill well worth cultivating.

And, thanking you for all your shared words is a gift to us who read to think and feel a unique sense of aliveness. You fulfill much of that with every posting. Thank you again.

Your words tell me that, as children, we do enjoy the smallest of things.........I sadly think that gratitude gets lost with all the mish mash of life's drama. Thoughtful write, hon!!

Love ya!
