-- Foreboding of the Night --

John Herlihy

In the grim foreboding of this earthly night,

I see the luminous glow of an eternal light.

We know we must this onslaught withstand,

Our wayward ways now serve as reprimand.

A virus gathers to spread its awesome scope,

The picture so bleak we find very little hope.

With hearts in our throats, panic can ensue,

We forget the guidance that we ever knew.

Whole cities eerily empty there in lockdown,

Humanity in isolation in a manner profound.

Is this darkened world a realm to ever escape?

Leave behind this shadow never again to make.

Here in the grim foreboding of this earthly night,

I close my eyes in prayer for the everlasting light.

Well, I don't know about you, other than what you have written here, but I don't want everlasting light, more so everlasting night with the inclement weather that I wish for always...-e-

Accepting that everyone has their own kind of prayer, whether to a diety or to thie innerself, we sometimes have to become calm enough to realize that the realm of consciousness has much to give and much to realize. Fear, panic and dispair, as you so aply express in this poem, are products of lostness, a state of mind and heart that is ungrounded, most probably, unrealized as the single most important weapon we have against any and all that would tear us down. Thank you for posting.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
