-- Dreams Never Die --

John Herlihy

We awaken with dawn light as our dreams come alive,

As alert as a fleeting fawn only hoping to survive.

We wish upon awakening that our dreams will never die;

When all else fails, it is upon our dreams we rely.

We humbly serve in this world that gives much in return,

The beauties of nature to enjoy in this brief sojourn.

We go about our business as destiny has with us its way,

But our dreams do linger, whispering all they say.

The ocean roars in earnest, but the wave on shore is spent,

Gone the nighty forces that the vast waters lent.

The bud comes forth to bloom only to wither down into dust

Its moment too passes, but its memory lingers, just

The day is perhaps finished, but the twilight will linger still,

Is that a call I hear of some lonely whippoorwill?

Who lacks the force of ambition to feel their inner fire?

Only to burn to ash in the mystery of their desire.

The dreams we experience at nighttime but come and go,

As daytime dreams flourish with all we ever know.

Rest content and never dare to cast forth a reason why,

All things perish, but our dreams will never die.

I LOVE THE STYLE OF THIS WORK AND THE TERRIFIC RHYME SCHEME ALL DONE SO WELL, AS YOU ALWAYS DO, MY FRIEND. DO DREAMS NEVER DIE? I THINK THE MEMORY OF OF OUR DREAMS NEVER DIE BUT TIME BRINGS US TO A CERTAIN PLACE WHERE WE ACCEPT...REALITY. AND I CALL TO MIND 1CORN 13:11; '...WHEN I WAS A CHILD...BUT NOW THAT I AM A MAN...'. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS.

Enjoyed this dreamy write. Although my dreams might not have died, there are some that I've buried.

"All things perish, but our dreams will never die." So true! Sad is the person who chooses not to follow their dream, at least in spirit. Or worse, refuses to dream at all. Night time dreams aside, its our waking dreams that give us something to look forward to. They are our language of hope.

A lovely panorama of words that sweeps me along.

I'm one who looks forward to dreams, as over the past few years they've become very productive, remembering the next morning much of what has been dreamed. Indeed, "our dreams will never die" be they nocturnal or daytime. Wonderful reminder of how valuable they are.
