-- Love as a Puzzle --
John Herlihy
Love but a puzzle whose pieces need fitting,
The emotion an outpouring with drops spilling.
A single drop glistens its magic potion of giving,
A flower whose petals, bud, bloom, then falling.
Love’s beauty there in the eyes, with tears filling,
Love’s sorrow weighs heavy on the scale of wanting.
Love’s modesty with lowered eyes, never taunting,
Love knows nothing and feels everything, haunting.
Love asks no questions and only gives its response,
Filling lovers to the brim, giving love what it wants.
I have waited my entire life for this and now I know,
Love never explains the mystery that it will bestow.
Suddenly love is simply complete, the puzzle whole,
Two hearts now united as one, in their unified soul.

You have given us a different kind of definition of "love" in this lovely poem. Many thanks!
