-- To Hold the Light --

John Herlihy

The darkness palpable

The light ephemeral

I reach for it

To seize and hold it

All to no avail

A useless travail

It disappears from view

Invisible as the wind blew

I know it is there

I breathe in and stare

I breathe out, close my eyes

Then specks of starlight arise

In trying to hold the light

I find the effort sheer delight

TRYING TO HOLD ON TO SOMETHING THAT IS ALREADY OURS...IF...WE WANT IT. BUT THEN, FROM ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW; CHILDREN AT PLAY...I LIKE THIS. WE ARE NEVER TOO OLD SO AS TO CEASE TRYING TO CONQUER IMPOSSIBLE OBJECTIVES, IN FACT...IT DELIGHTS US. THANKS FOR THE SHARE. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Light can be so many things to so many people. Most of the time it's good in that I want to see what is going on around me. But sometimes I would just as soon it be extinguished. I say this referencing light as a truth as well as light as a metaphor. As in all things, light has a dark side, too.
