-- Rays of Light --

John Herlihy

Rays of light drawn from eternity afar,

Rays of light born in a solitary star.

The light creeps in on cat’s paws,

Darkness held as prey in light’s jaws.

The light exudes a cool, ethereal mist,

Running thru mountain valleys blessed.

The light a shimmering transparent veil,

Dancing on ocean waters as feathers sail.

The light a ghostly phantom presence,

Now lost in the clouds of misty essence.

The light approaches in mute silence,

Washing over the grasslands in alliance.

The light of the golden autumn moon,

Sweeps earth’s carpet with a trusty broom.

The lights of those twinkling stars,

Descend thinly as if plucked from guitars.

The light of dawn holds its breath,

Whispering psalms over night’s death.

The light crackles as fiery sparks,

Announcing itself in rainbow arcs.

The light, like breath, comes and goes,

Like breath on fire, its wind flows.

The light a mystery born of night,

The rays a miracle that bedazzle sight.

THIS REMINDS ME OF SOME EARTH LOCATIONS THAT EXPERIENCE MONTHS OF DARKNESS. HOW ENDEARING AND AWESOMELY BEAUTIFUL THE FIRST RAYS OF RETURNING LIGHT MUST APPEAR TO THEM....'THE RAYS A MIRACLE THAT BEDAZZLE SIGHT'! THANKS FOR SHARING, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Wow! You've poetically shared one of the most elusive realms of nature we so often take for granted. Being from the world of film, I early on in my life took to paying close attention to the many moods light gives us. To this day, much of your descriptions of light accompany my every move. Your final stanza wraps up the phenomena with a glorious bow. Kudos.

The use of light is vital to all forms of art, I think. Your use of it here is quite masterful, but then you are a master at imagery! I especially like that last verse.

You have shown us the light in many ways it is apparent. I've often heard that artists pick a particular place or time, "because of the light."

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
