-- Everything Is Spirit --

John Herlihy

Everything was darker,

Darker than the deepest silence,

As if the darkness needed the silence.

Everything was quieter,

Quieter than the darkest darkness,

As if the quiet needed the darkness.

Everything was lighter,

Lighter amid the feathery shadows,

As if the light needed the shadow.

Everything was perfumed,

Perfumed with the breath of nature,

As if perfume needed nature’s breath.

Everything was living,

Living in the face of leaf and stone,

As if carved from the gravity of stone.

Everything was motionless,

Motionless found in the patience of pause,

As if lost in the contentment of peace.

Everything was breathless,

Breathless in awe of the living breath,

As if breathless in defiance of solitary death.

Everything was visible,

Visible manifesting the invisible,

As if the invisible needed the visible.

Everything is seen,

Seen by the lone wolf of the soul,

As if in seeing, the wolf made whole.

Everything is spirit,

Love found in this living presence.

Indeed, this presence is the Essence.

Personally, I don't think anything happens haphazardly in the physical universe. We are all connected. Everything is connected. Tug on something out there by itself, and you will find it connected to something else, visible or invisible. Perhaps, ultimately, for human beings, that connection, that most vital part, the heart and soul pith and perfume of it all, is God's perfect love. Enjoyed. Thank you for sharing. rlc
