-- The Silence of Things --
John Herlihy
Living as we do
Within the cacophony of noise,
We tend to forget
The sublime silence of things.
The silence of a rainbow
That suddenly appears across the horizon.
The silence of perfume
That draws the honeybee to the nectar.
The silence of air
That carries the inviting sent to the bumblebee.
The silence of a butterfly
Dressed in delicate white wings as a bride.
The silence of mountains
That stand in the distance in such nobility.
The silence of trees
That extend their arms in prayer to the heavens.
The silence of snow
That descends from the heavens as unique flakes.
The silence of clouds
That pass imperiously by those mountain peaks.
The silence of the moon
That defies the darkness with its moon rays.
The silence of the stars
That remind us of the infinities of the night.
The silence of things,
That speak of life and love, the beauty of things.
The power of silence,
Whose voice unveils the mystery of things.
