-- Hope’s Arrival --
John Herlihy
Hope rises into a mist over the horizon,
There it is, not asked for, but still there.
Hope a bird that flutters in its feathers,
Appearing out of the mist, fleeting and
Vulnerable, coming from the unknown,
And easily injured, leaving us wondering.
Hope like a secret that was never shared,
A gift once opened and never returned.
Hope like intimacy that reveals too much,
Enticing us to think that all will be well.
Often hope but a mirage we chance to see,
Shimmering like pools in the desert heat.
Hope’s approach helps to ward off despair,
Hope’s arrival the answer to our prayer.
