-- Murdered Memories --

John Herlihy

 

I murdered my memories long ago,

Because all of them needed to die.

Feelings I no longer wanted to know,

On the present moment I wish to rely.

Some people end up living in the past,

Their laurels and wreaths often inspire.

But these little successes will never last,

They burn up in their own funeral pyre.

Memory’s ghost may still often return,

Our memories never truly leave us alone.

When we think of them, hearts do burn,

Reminding us of failures already known.

All things die a natural death, memory too,

To sweep clean life’s slate of all it ever knew.

LOVE THIS SEQUENCE AND STYLE. BUT, I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS MESSAGE JOHN. I MEAN SOME THINGS, DEPENDING ON WHAT THEY ARE, CAN AND SHOULD BE FORGOTTEN, YES. HOWEVER, I THINK IT'S GOOD TO REMEMBER THE STREETS WE WALKED AND THE TURNS THAT WERE MADE SO THAT WE CAN AVOID REVISITING THE NEGATIVE ONES AND THE ANGST OF MAKING THE SAME MISTAKES...OVER AND OVER. ...NO? THANKS FOR THIS SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I too have adopted a "leave the baggage behind" and have tried on numerous occasions to find the right words to give dignity and pride to the fact that now and the future is all that should matter. You've penned the words describing the freedom of leaving behind certain memories. Perfect. Synergism prevails once again, as I just penned a variation of accepting what is and moving on in "An Instant." Enjoyed this piece. Thank you.
