MIRROR POEMS

 

-- Never Take the Blame --

John Herlihy

 

Some people never ready to take the blame;

They are never wrong; it is always the same.

Incapable to see what they’ve done; own up;

They just romp thru their lives as a playful pup.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, everyone else is wrong;

They join their comrade-at-arms in a sing-along.

It’s all about the ego, what they do must be right;

Every accusation of wrong seems a personal slight.

They seek friends to support their erroneous claim;

They trample over others no matter who they maim.

They will lie, cheat and steal if push comes to shove;

They know nothing of mercy, giving, regret, or love.

What? Take the blame? Good heavens, you implore?

Whatever else I may hate, it’s being wrong I abhor.

 

-- Ready to Take the Blame --

Some people always ready to take the blame;

They are always wrong; it is always the same.

Their over-zealous approach has them own up;

They are guilty as charged, like a naughty pup.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, what they do is wrong;

They can never join righteous people’s sing-along.

It’s on their conscience, what they do goes afoul;

Every accusation against them a personal growl.

They have no one to support their erroneous claim;

They walk on egg-shells afraid everyone to maim.

They examine their lives and seek mercy from above;

They value all about mercy, giving, regret, and love.

Why do I always take the blame? And whatever for?

Whatever else I may love, it’s being right I adore.

If only more of us were vested with the need to understand the essence of your words. Sadly, far too many find it difficult to be honest. Curse of our century, it appears, thanks for the "never admit he's wrong" Ex-President.

Mirror poems are uniquely you John. IMO, one of your poetic strengths. Kudos! I've never had any problem taking the blame for my own stupidity. I believe there is a source of power in each of us that will never be realized (in its fullness) until we take honest responsibility for everything we do - good and bad. Enjoyed this. rlc
