-- Finding Solitude --
John Herlihy
Finding solitude,
In unexpected places.
Things enter me,
To bring their quietude
The gong inside a tolling bell,
A gentle wave inside a seashell,
A praying mantis on its knees,
The silent touch of a breeze,
Inside a sunset reflected in a lake,
Dawn sets the world awake,
The closeness of night’s dome,
Where myriad stars roam.
The emptiness of a desert bleak,
Its fullness makes me feel meek.
The forest admits shafts of light,
The vast ocean ignores the night.
In the expanse of mountain peaks,
Sublime visions everyone seeks.
Certain places offer treasured solitude,
Enter therein to partake of beatitude.
