MIRROR POEMS
-- A Hope That Blinds --
John Herlihy
We all know of many a hope that binds,
Its promise reeling us back from the brink.
Less familiar perhaps is a hope that blinds,
Feeling uplifted when in fact we merely sink.
A multitude of hope that may never come true ,
They appear before us only to again disappear.
All the vain wishes and desires that we ever knew,
Our hearts flutter in promise, only to flee the spear.
There, I have said it, what of hope’s promise,
Floating before our eyes as if riding the wind.
All dressed up in sweet anticipation, a novice,
Only to fail us in the end, a promise trimmed.
Hope only puffs us up, making us feel aloof;
Some hope does nothing but blind us to the truth.
-- A Hope That Binds --
John Herlihy
We know of false hopes that merely blind,
Its promise leading us to the lure of a brink.
More familiar perhaps is a hope that binds,
Lifting us aloft when we are in danger to sink.
A multitude of hope that may well come true ,
They appear before as a dream that becomes real.
All the subtle wishes and desires that we ever knew,
Our hearts flutter in promise, the hope we begin to feel.
There, I have said it, with hope always comes promise,
Floating before our eyes as if riding the wind.
All dressed up in sweet anticipation, a novice,
The promise brings benefits with no desire to rescind.
Hope becomes true when it delivers its proof;
There for all to see, the justification of hope’s truth.

Love ya!

I place little value in hope and a lot of value on action. Even when we act wrongly, we put our thoughts of hope aside while we tackle the problem at hand directly. Much more psychologically rewarding than blind or false hope.
