-- When a Sparrow Falls --
John Herlihy
Some people die all in fanfare,
Closing their eyes amid the glare.
Other people die alone in a room,
To be swept away by a dust broom.
Only God knows when a sparrow falls,
His loving eye suffers no blinding walls.
He sees and in seeing knows the heart,
Even the end was beginning at the start.
Not a breath taken but His Spirit doth fill,
Every step taken by the mercy of His will.
We think we are alone, but He is never far,
The light that He shines fills the distant star.
Whenever a king falls, the world may reckon,
When a sparrow falls, the Divine will beckon.
