-- Hope Springs Eternal --

John Herlihy

Arrival of hope can be a dangerous thing,

Into the expectant mind unrealities bring.

Wishing all our stray hopes to materialize,

Fashioning dreams that we tend to idolize.

Hoping for days that certain things would occur,

Hoping for things that our pitiful hearts may stir.

The future would bring a long lost friend back,

Our coffers be filled with all the things we lack.

Until the day arrives when our hopes have failed,

All the wishing gone to naught our hopes entailed.

Our hopes, like mist, in the mercy of a wind at play,

Our hopes, like rainwater, that simply drain away.

There they are in the mind, like prodigals returned,

Rising as a phoenix, out of ashes thoroughly burned.

Hope springs eternal, like a random wind that blew,

Uplifting our spirits, whether or not they come true .

While it is better to have a plan and work diligently for better every day, hope is for the chance that that hard work can be replaced by serendipity, or perhaps a strong belief by authority unknown. Both have good purpose, but to avoid the bitter taste of failure, the steady growth of a good plan, carried out will often bring the bright light of revelation to us on a silver platter if we work hard for it.

Yes, that is the nature of Hope...
in the belief things may come true...
It can uplift the spirits and keep us
going through rough times...
A Nurse who was in charge of a Hospice
once told me she didn’t believe
in ‘false Hope’...Hope can never be false...
It can only turn out to be false...

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
