-- Mother Nature as Oasis --
John Herlihy
Mother Nature arrives to make herself known,
In the rays of scorching sun or as a wind blown.
We call nature as beloved mother always there,
In her noble presence we invoke humble prayer.
There she lies, right inside the cave of my heart,
I feel her gentle wind blow in and never depart.
Her moody presence wanders freely in my mind,
Her light breeze gentle, her stormy gale unkind.
My heart burns a fierce thought with her touch,
Love is what she offers, she forever keeps watch.
Mountain rivers descend in the valley of my soul,
Into the deep well of me as in a bottomless hole.
Waters from her spring fill the gourd of my basis
In the parched desert of my life, she is my oasis.

I can always tell where we come from whenever I'm in nature's glory. Coming out of nature, she shaped us the way we are.
Last night I watched a PBS show about horses and their engagement with humans. When horses were taken above the Arctic Circle where temperatures routinely drop below 50° below zero, they evolved into furry, short and stocky, hardly animals that can find food and be comfortable even in those frightening cold temperatures that humans have to wear heavy clothing to survive.
And when they were taken into the desert by the Bedouins, horses became runners, oblivious to the heat, able to smell water at great distances and run like the wind. As a result, became the most beautiful horses in the world. While their human companions had to wear protection from the sun, wind and heat and carry water between oases in order to survive.
Deep inside, we are still hunters and gatherers. Nomads looking for new territory.
