-- The Hand of Destiny --

John Herlihy

Through the open window,

I wished to see my destiny.

My days can seem as limbo,

I want something new to see.

What was waiting for me,

Lies there on the other side.

Will always be waiting for me,

From my destiny I cannot hide.

My destiny will be still there,

There still on the other side.

When I finally do get there,

I will take my destiny in stride.

I whistled a childhood tune,

I recalled from when little.

As mysterious as a rune,

Mirth plucked on a fiddle.

The tune made me feel fine,

Snuck up on me as a surprise.

A piece of sky as a gift sublime,

A miracle only God can devise.

The hand of destiny in my hand,

Breeze never to be blown away.

Before its arrival I eagerly stand,

As if I might know what it will say.

DESTINY IS SOMETHING WE CANNOT GET AWAY FROM...WHATEVER ROAD WE TAKE, IT IS DESTINED. I DON'T WANT TO SEE WHAT LIES AHEAD AT ALL. BY FAITH I LIVE FROM DAY TO DAY...DEPENDING ON THE HAND OF GOD TO GUIDE MY WAY. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Many refuse to believe in the concept of destiny. I suppose I can see their points of view. Personally, however, there have been too many instances in my life to make me not believe in it

While your destiny may still lie ahead, your progress so far has been so far and wide that it makes other people's experiences pale by comparison. You can be proud of how far you've come regardless of how far you have to go.

We can only hope and pray for invigorating new views, the kinds that give spirit and vivacity. Sometimes though, we have to be satisfied with what minds eye arouses in us. Not knowing beforehand is part of the adventure. Thanks... rlc

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
