-- Old Promises --

John Herlihy

Broken promises will never grow old;

They die a death before they are told.

Lonely moments that wither and sigh,

Brief moments that only age and die.

Found in a land we will never enter,

The sun shining, but it feels like winter.

Old, enduring promises are never broken,

They age gracefully their truth to betoken.

Their being spoken offers a treasured trust,

Their perfume exudes the richness of musk.

The promise fills the hours of our every day,

The promise so spoken never fritters away.

Broken promises are sadly never fully told;

Old promises never die, but only grow old.

FOREVER WE WILL HAVE THE FAITHFUL AND UNFAITHFUL...A BALANCE THAT IS NECESSARY IN THIS WORLD WHICH IS SUPPORTED BY THE NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE FORCES DRAWING STRENTH FROM EACH OTHER. THUS, IN THE LONG RUN...BROKEN PROMISES AND LASTING PROMISES SERVE THEIR PURPOSE. THANKS FOR SHARING, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Promises can be difficult to keep. But if they're deeply rooted in our heart and soul, we will do all we are able to honor them.

Promises must be made so very carefully, eh, John? If it's the past, leave it there, hon!!

Love ya!

There are a few old promises lying around and some broken ones that will never be fixed because the promiser is dead. Unless you are religious, where some deity has promised that you will get your comeuppance from that person when you meet him/her in purgatory. I swear it on a stack of Bibles. The more the merrier.

Basically a promise is only as good as the person who makes the promise. My promises are clearly stated in my will so they will not be misconstrued.
