Childhood shows us who we were –

Fresh, innocent, blissful, unfinished.

The past shows us who we are no longer –

Seeking, failing, searching, finding.

Yesterday shows us what we haven’t done –

Neglectful, regretful, stressful, forgetful.

The present shows us who we are –

Coarse, bounded, rough-edged, chipped.

Tomorrow shows us how to give up the past –

Feeling, imagining, hoping, planning.

The future shows us what we can do –

Wondering, questioning, endeavoring.

Our dreams show us who we can become –

Wanting, waiting, willing, wishing.

The truth shows us we are always someone –

Giving, tender, kind, understanding, lovable.
