Were the "we" only of the greater population. Slowly, we are becoming just the opposite as a global society. The upside, as you so eloquently point out for those of us retaining sanity and consciousness, is what truly makes the species potentially miraculous. Thank you for seeking readers who understand, and those readers who don't yet have a clue.
