-- The Burden of the Soul --

John Herlihy

 

The burden of the soul lies in the breadth of its light,

Never to be wasted, never extinguished by the night.

The burden of the soul never more than it can bear,

A divine promise accepted in the form of a prayer.

 

The soul meets the world in the cloak of humanity,

The essence of the human being has no use of vanity.

The relativity of the world always brought to the fore,

The choice of good or evil always knocking on the door.

 

The lower soul succumbs to temptations of a weak mind,

Reveling in the sights of the world as if they were blind.

The higher soul seeks the straight path leading to bliss,

Beauty and truth on equal terms, wrapped in divine mist.

 

This tug of war woven into the intricate fabric of the soul,

The destiny of the soul written clearly on an ancient scroll.

SO TRUE...PREDESTINED, IS EVERY BURDEN THAT EVERY SOUL WILL ENCOUNTER. IF ONE CAN JUST REMEMBER THIS WHEN GOING THROUGH, BUT THEN...THIS TOO IS A LEARNING PROCESS, ALL A PART OF OUR JOURNEY. WELL DONE, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

While I agree with the "tug-of-war" that goes on in people's minds, I don't agree with some "higher" soul that seeks a "straight path leading to bliss." There is no straight path to bliss. But I believe that one can achieve bliss quite easily by just relaxing and not doing any mind fighting.

In my experiences, (I'm Christian) the soul is always burdened if it is not being nourished properly. Judaism speaks of five levels to the soul. That study is quite interesting, but far too involved to elaborate on in a review. In my experiences, there is never a lack, only our unwillingness to seek it. Effective imagery in this John, and a fascinating topic. Well done... rlc
