-- Ride the Mystic Panther --

John Herlihy

An unanswered question,

As if feeling the mysterious.

On the edge lies a suggestion,

Tempting and ever so curious.

Always seeking an answer,

None of them ever right.

Like an elusive panther,

If come upon it may bite.

An answer lies in wait,

Silent and always following.

Hanging in the wind as bait,

A whisper in a breeze blowing.

So many answers wrong,

On the breath of ghosts.

Singing some eerie song,

As loud as childish boasts.

Some answers are lying,

Interesting, but unreliable.

They come across as prying,

Only to turn forgettable.

Answers fruitful, multiply,

They come to join the horde.

Their content never to comply,

They leave us feeling bored.

Seek not the answer,

What it means to be alive.

Ride the mystic panther,

The answer will arrive.

Sometimes the answer is best left unanswered.

A command to be courageous and face everything with a keen eye to whether it is to whether it is real or not. I understand that most panthers are big cats that have a mutation that colors their fur black. For example, most African panthers are leopards. On their skin under their fur are spots. And in the very elusive Florida panther may only be a low land mountain lion or cougar with the mutation making its fur black.

Why would anyone want to ride a panther? While they are strong, a horse suits the weight of an adult human much better. I know, it was only a metaphor.

'Mystic Panther,' what a unique notion. And when the answer does arrive, hopefully we will have the ears to hear it, and put it to good use. Enjoyed this. rlc
