-- No Man Is an Island --
John Herlihy
No man is an island,
But an island I still be.
Harsh winds I withstand,
The ocean surrounds me.
At night a quiet recluse,
Awash in moonlight glow.
Psalms at midnight profuse,
The stars my emotions know.
Whenever I may feel lonely,
Waves with breath of soul.
Offer counsel for me only,
Alone, but feeling whole.
The waves of the ocean,
Will show me the way.
Their rumble a love potion,
Moonlight silence holds sway.
The island harbors a hidden way,
Thru waters to a safe haven.
That leads into a secluded bay,
The night as sleek as a raven.
I think of you on a far shore,
In memory, no longer alone.
Love that I never knew before,
Clear, smooth as precious stone.
A solitary island no longer,
In the fold of memory’s embrace.
As I sit there alone and ponder,
The sweet emergence of your face.
