-- INTO LIGHT --
John Herlihy
The light is not in the distance,
The light is there in the eyes.
Mountains offer more than resistance,
With strength only God can devise.
The stars seem to lie there in night’s heaven,
instead, they nestle deep within the eyes.
United, they appear and disappear as brethren,
The gift of their insight makes us wise.
Multiple worlds lie contained in our vision,
We see light of which angels are made.
Who roam eternally in the fields Elysian,
But descend as fairies in our eyes to wade.
With closed eyes, whole worlds forsaking,
With open eyes, worlds luminous, breath-taking.
