-- Someone To Lean On --

John Herlihy

 

Adrift in this world of folly and time,

Lost, alone in this world of trouble and grime.

The storm arose out of the darkened brink,

Only to subside in what seemed like a blink.

Thunder quieted as howling wind noise made,

Seagulls cried overhead as pelicans did wade.

Broken tree branches swept the land as a dust broom,

The air now fresh and clear as roving puff clouds loom.

Those industrious ants navigate a twig in single file,

The ladybug far from home alights on a leaf in style.

A river spreads like melted butter in the bottomlands,

Weeping willows lined the shore amid drifting sands.

Lucky the person who has someone upon whom to lean;

Storm will ever arise, just as sunlight will always gleam.

A good dose of imagery in these lines, John. You do well with descriptions, of which I especially like the river spreading like melted butter. That is good, as well as storm will ever arise. Surely a winning choice of photograph, too, someone leaning on someone nicely. Love it ~~ djl
