-- All Those Musical Instruments --
John Herlihy
All those musical instruments fill me with tears,
To empty heart’s cup of those tremors and fears.
No one dare contest the versatility of the piano,
From its base-sounding cords to lyric pianissimo.
The subtle lute as lilting rhythms in courts medieval,
Born of a wooden body hollowed in realms primeval.
The violin known of course for plucking heart strings,
The harmonica known to be the very heart that sings.
Who doesn’t muse at the lush strumming of the guitar,
Drift into eerie regions of the mind with the lone sitar.
Percussion thunders thru me in the beating of a drum,
Or the music of a hummingbird with wings that hum.
The flute, ah the lonely flute, stirs feelings of love lost,
Echoed by the voice of the wind with breaths of frost.

We can also be calmed from stress, and inspired to be creative…
I was inspired to write a poem whilst listening to ‘OLTREMARE’ by Ludivico Einaudi…it was a very different result from what I expected….
The individual instruments all have their own charm and energy…affecting our emotions as you point out…Interestingly, Harp is said to be the most relaxing and calming is the Harp…
The whole subject is fascinating….Thank you for reawakening this interest. A most enjoyable poem…
