-- Infant Innocence --
John Herlihy
In infant innocence lies a knowing pure,
A strength all life’s tribulations to endure.
We are from the web of consciousness born,
Knowledge of survival does our mind adorn.
There deep in our heart smolders stubborn desire,
There In our souls gathers an unyielding fire.
Why else do infants shed their smiles of rhapsody,
Unless to betray their insights into celestial mystery.
Warm infant love spreads as butter across their face,
Tenderness falls from their fingers as delicate lace.
A bewitching happiness pours forth as native delight,
Intense enough to fully extinguish darkness of night.
Deep sea eyes finally conclude the narrative with flair,
Unbounded soul set free, their secret finally laid bare.

and see the innocence that we once knew. We cannot recapture
it, but we can reset our compasses and recalibrate our aims.
A very thoughtful poem.
