-- Weight on One’s Shoulders –

John Herlihy

Never knew the extent of weight on my shoulders,

Until the burden of this weight was finally lifted.

Carrying around this weight felt as a sack of boulders,

Once the burden gone, I felt true blessing gifted.

None of us are stranger to the effect of this dilemma,

We simply weather it thru knowing all things pass.

Mothering our erratic moods by increasing our stamina,

Knowing that the hardships we bear will never last.

Poor old Sisyphus, who pushed a boulder up the mountain,

Only to see it roll down the hillside again and again.

Still, the goal lies at the top, at the source of life’s fountain,

Only to be reached when every breath speaks amen.

Our burdens in life contain wisdom in the lesson learned,

The value of our efforts never come easily, unearned.

I ENJOYED THIS SHARING SO MUCH, JOHN. GOD DIDN'T INTEND FOR US TO SHOULDER OUR BURDENS ALONE. THAT'S WHY HE MADE US VULNERABLE SO THAT WE COULD 'LEARN' TO LEAN('...CALL ON ME IN THE DAY OF TROUBLE...')ON HIM...TO LIFT THE WEIGHT FROM OUR SHOULDERS, AMEN. MARVELOUS AND THANK YOU! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS +INSPIRATIONS

We all have burdens on our shoulders. I had many throughout my life, even when my husband was still alive. I carried those burdens for my family because they were of my family's, and I didn't feel being burdened then. But after my husband passed away, I feel I'm the only one who stands holding up the floor and the ceiling in my family.

Now, I realize burdens are only there if we claim them as our own. I'm seeing burdens that belong to my children and they must bear for their own sake. It's part of life, and they must use their diligence to carry those burdens of life like my husband and I once did. I think I can mentally live my life easier when I can be free of some burdens that are no longer my own.

Many write poetry because they have not reached the pinnacle you describe. But you clearly have because of your broad ranging thoughts from the universe to our emotions, freely shared with us on a daily basis from your outstanding poetic ability.

I reached, through many trials, gradually over the years, to a point where my life, while still troubled, is comfortable for me and I seek nothing more than a swift and painless death when my time comes.
