-- Something Is Always Lost –

John Herlihy

Something is always lost,

Even when nothing is missing.

Gone without noticing the cost,

Without even noting the blessing.

Time passing, never to be retrieved,

Plans forgotten, never again conceived.

The day long, but the hours slip by,

Work left undone, even when we try.

Something is always lost,

Even when nothing is missing.

Gone without noticing the cost,

Without even noting the blessing.

Childhood riding away on bird wings,

Innocence lost, yet the heart still sings.

That first blush of love as we older grow,

What we ignore more than we know.

Something is always lost,

Even when nothing is missing.

Gone without noticing the cost,

Without even noting the blessing.

Our children fade away as we grow older,

Nothing held back as life’s river grows bolder.

We also change, losing a part of ourselves,

Random wishes, hopes, dreams as lost elves.

Something is always lost,

Even when nothing is missing.

Gone without noticing the cost,

Without even noting the blessing.

The day there, but the night missing,

No moonlight to spare, darkness confessing.

The night there, day no longer witnessing,

Sunlight on wheatfields with abundant blessing.

Something is always lost,

Even when nothing is missing.

Gone without noticing the cost,

Without even noting the blessing.

Solitude comforting, but still there alone,

Loneliness encroaching, the heart to own.

So much left to accomplish, not yet fulfilled,

Hearts beating silently, the emptiness filled.

Yet when some things are lost,

Then we begin all the missing.

Gone and we do know the cost,

Taking note of the lost blessing.

THIS SHARING CERTAINLY EXPOUNDS ON THAT OLD CLICHE; WE NEVER MISS A GOOD THING, UNTIL IT IS GONE. ENJOYED, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Life is always sending us more than we can hold at a given time. We have to drop some things to make room for the new, but sometimes we have an opportunity to lift some of those things up once more and they may seem like new again.

However, there were always events to take the place of
those things missed…perhaps some could have
been preferable?
All of the part of this mysterious thing called
LIFE….
A very interesting concept to ponder…

The greatest thing we lost is time, for once the time is lost we can never find it again.

Although a bit repetitive, a thought well presented. Made me look back at all of the plans, ideas, goals and opportunities that I missed along the way and eventually abandoned to time and circumstance.
