-- The Price We Bear -- John Herlihy Sadness the price of the happiness we enjoy, Distrust the price of the trust we destroy. Heartache the price of the love we bear, Suffering the price of the sorrow we share. Waiting the price of the patience we endure, Shattered dreams the price of our hopes pure. Today’s loss the price of yesterday’s gain, Tomorrow’s regret the price of today’s shame. Blame the price of the mistakes we make, Repentance the price of the guilt we create. Noise the price of the silence we break, Loss the price of the promises we forsake. Lies the price of the truths we betray, Inaction the price of the effort we delay. Difficulty the price our ease to earn, Poverty the price our riches to burn. Failure the price of the success we upend, Reality the price our imaginings portend. IN THIS OUR LIVING, WE AS HUMAN BEINGS WILL FIND THAT...FOR EVERYTHING THERE IS A PRICE TO BEAR. SOMETIMES IT'S A GOOD PRICE, THAT IS...THE HAPPINESS OF REWARD. BUT THEN, SOMETIMES...IT IS FILLED WITH PAIN AND SORROW. HOWEVER, IN ANY CASE, ON THIS JOURNEY HOME WE MUST 'BEAR THE PRICE' OF IT ALL. GREAT WORK, MY FRIEND. I've noticed that a lot of folks are paying the price of their past misdeeds in the "breaking" news these days. It's good to be where I am right now, not having to pay the price of something in my past. But it might be in my future, so I must be careful not enjoy too much my carefree days that could change at any time.

From a life thoroughly lived, one is taken by the vast wisdom your comparisons proffer. It dawned on me as I read this that there are many prices to pay in order to learn, in order to better oneself. Yet, our social awareness today often "shorthands" the willingness to acknowledge that everything we enjoy and sometimes suffer from, has a price to bear that surprisingly is not expected in many cases. You have met your pluses in life with the knowledge a little bit of the minus is necessary to grow from. Well phrased. Enjoyed.
