-- The Eternal Circle --
John Herlihy
The eternal circle often found in the everyday;
Time’s arrow flies onward with never any delay.
My life, life itself a circle. I cannot tell you why;
A joyous carousel with the years just floating by.
The day’s transition passes smoothly into the night;
The night’s transition passes smoothly into the day.
This transition is the eternal circle brought to bear;
Harmony of enduring rhythms as a universal prayer.
Promise of dawn balanced in promise of twilight;
The sun’s circuitous journey reflected in moonlight.
The dance of our solar system forms a greater whole;
A harmonious ballet in accord with the universal soul.
Individual galaxies swirl billions of stars in trailing lights.
While the galaxies themselves rotate in celestial heights.
Space loses any clear meaning in overarching infinities;
Time’s continuum disappears into the wheel of eternities.
Earth, the sun, the moon and stars all ciphers encoded;
The symbolic perfection of the circle in a matrix devoted.
The horizon a circular line between earth and deep space;
The mystery of the beyond a circle in the heavens trace.
Seasons ride around and around on the carousel of time,
Each one making a proclamation of its wonders sublime.
They move onward in life’s circle and never look behind,
Autumn awaits winter’s death, spring of summer to remind.
A small pebble in a placid lake an expanding circle makes,
Tracing circular ripples in this smooth expanse of lakes.
The pebble sinks but the tracings on the surface advance;
Behold the widening trembling waters into infinity dance.
In the motion of the universe lies perfection, the circle said.
In the heart of this matrix, meaning and purpose together wed.
Tracings of the Artist’s Signature found everywhere in swirls,
From ripples in a lake to the whirl of galaxies, such miracles.

Physicists have a theory that the universe itself, after expanding, will contract and start all over again. But here on earth we often find that history repeats itself quite often when we don't learn the lessons of the past. Hopefully, the circle of life will go unbroken.
