IT IS WHEN ONE IS CORNERED IN FEAR...THAT HOPE IS BORN. AND THE COUNTLESS STORIES ARE STILL BEING TOLD OF HOW GRATEFUL ONE WAS FOR THE FEARFUL PLACE THAT BROUGHT THEM TO A PLACE OF HOPE. I OFTEN CAN'T HELP BUT EMBRACE THE WORD OF GOD...'I WOULD HAVE FAINTED, IF THE LORD HAD NOT BEEN ON MY SIDE'. WORDS OF THE HEROIC DAVID, WHO WAS NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT...HE WAS SHAKING IN HIS BOOTS BUT FOR 'HOPE'. INDEED THEY INTERTWINE...FOR A GOOD PURPOSE. MARVELOUS SHARING! Psychologists have learned that we are born with only two fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. All the rest are learned. Often from parents or siblings at a very young age.
Hope is hopeless without action in the direction of the hope, making it come true in due time, if not in a lifetime. Prayer is a form of inaction that reinforces hope (a warm fuzzy feeding endorphins to the brain) but does nothing to reach what is hoped for.
But for believers, your poem is a prayer answered.
Couldn't help but flash back to the many belaying events in my climbing days when the best of rope security was always laced in my mind with hope and fear. The rope is a many-layered metaphor that suggests a well-understood notion that the best of hopes sometimes can't overcome the fear of reality. Well expressed.
