-- Snowbound in a Winter Wonderland -- John Herlihy The sleeping polar bear in blue-white glow, The blue of sky offset by the white of snow. Against the rich backcloth of the azure sky, A cold sun offering mercy from its open eye. Mammoth limbs folded in harmonious rest, The glorious fur coat from heaven blessed. Against a landscape both barren and bleak, Dressed for the winter, its coat silky sleek. Impervious to the frigid climate, at peace, The resting bear warmed by winter fleece. Its face reflects harmony of nature serene, The animal at home in such a winter scene. Body and soul unite obstacles to withstand, Snowbound in a harsh winter wonderland. This is a marvelous, poetic description of a polar bear at rest. Your imagery, as always, is superb. Loved it!

Your poem makes so warm and comfortable the environment of one of Nature's natural and authentic species. We humans complain when it's hot, when it's cold, when indoors sheltered from the elements, et al. Would that we realized complaining of the environment does nothing to eradicate it... just makes it more dominant in our discomfort zone. And we're supposed to be the superior species. Time to wake up and feel the cold as a connection to the natural state of life.
