 -- Nature’s Sympathies –

John Herlihy

Of all the artifacts in the realm of nature's mysteries,

Nothing stands out more acutely than nature's sympathies.

The mellow contentment of hearts amid dawns misty glow,

Dewy peace of mind cleared of anguish as gentle breezes blow.

The breathtaking majesty observed in snowclad mountain peaks,

Luring temptations of soaring heights the mountain climate seeks.

The inner core of a buttercup awaiting the ravages of the bee,

Who steals from its heart the sweet nectar before rising to flee.

A wandering ladybug with painted wings ever searching for home,

Butterflies on artful wings in the blue skies under heaven’s dome.

The flaming volcano purging as fiery lava from rocky cracks spew,

The ghostly flow of morning fog that settles upon grasses as dew.

Nature’s sympathies draw us unconsciously in to temper despair,

In its hallowed sanctuary, our minds kneel reverently as in prayer.

I had never thought of beauty as a symbol of sympathy before. I don't know why. We may wear somber colors to a funeral but it's the beauty of the flowers that convey the sympathy felt for us by others. How many other ways are there that we take beauty for granted or never really see as sympathetic?

In a hallowed sanctuary, how easily we slide into that mode where nature sings to us, when all else fails to calm us John, Beautiful and evocative, I really enjoyed this.

You've penned a thought process that is so needed today by the many who disallow the sympathies of Nature as important observation, opting instead for man-made aggressions designed to forsake Nature's simple lessons and wisdom. Thank you for posting this definitive expression that is available to everyone.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
